Latin American Restaurant: The La Cozina Boracay, Zuzuni Hotel

Latin American Restaurant: The La Cozina Boracay, Zuzuni Hotel

The island known for its white sand beaches, azure water, warm locals and numerous foodie haven – the beautiful Boracay. It was only this year when we got the chance to see its beauty. Being Filipinos, we felt a little ashamed of this fact. But as they say, it is better to be late than never 🙂

Apart the most spoken golden sunsets of the island that made our family trip more unforgettable, sharing meals together and trying out different cuisines added hype to the experience! One foodie spot which caught our attention was the La Cozina restaurant of Zuzuni hotel, a 4 star boutique property owned by a Spanish national. Let us take to our dining experience to this Latin American resto of Boracay 🙂

Being situated at the beginning of Station 1 which is an area known for a quieter and more relaxed ambiance, I must say that the location is perfect as it isn’t far from the main station of the island. You can walk a few steps from here to reach Station 2, which is considered the heart of the island. More visitors, restaurants and bars can be found here. D’ Mall where you can buy souvenirs and eat out is also a few minutes walk from the restaurant.

Going here during lunch time, we were greeted by the view of the beautiful beach, the warm smiles of the staff and the tropical island vibe – swaying palm trees, sound of birds and the sunny weather. With the interior design, it reminds us of New York restaurants with chalkboard menu options, open kitchen and sleek fixtures. Tables are on one side and long chairs are smartly attached to the walls providing more space.

Food and Menu

The restaurant menu focuses on Latin American cuisines with emphasis on Spanish dishes.  La Cozina serves as the all day dining restaurant of Zuzuni hotel. It also caters to people who love a good night out as they provide wines, premium beverages and other alcohol from the bar.

Since we miss Spain so much, we make sure to order dishes from the country. We had Gambas Al Ajillo (PHP 380) from the starters. The dish is made of shrimps and white sauce complemented with bread, not the usual as it was in black color! As you’d know, I love breads alone but I can’t resist the tasteful shrimp dip! But my husband gladly tried it with rice instead of the bread, (Pinoy ka nga!) haha!

From the Tacos options, we had the Pork Belly Porchetta (PHP 250) which caught Jeremiah’s taste buds since he loves pork. Our family of four shared with the generous portions of Tacos and all agreed that the taste was perfect! As for me, I like the fact that it wasn’t oily.

When the main courses were served, the Chorizo Bolognese Linguini (PHP 300), Black Squid Ink Paella (PHP 380) and the Grilled Boneless Chicken with salad and rice (PHP 340), we were all in awe with the plating and presentation. The staff squeezed the lemon and mix the paella in front of us so this really made us more hungry!haha. We all agreed that the paella was the best among three so make sure to try it guys when you headed to Boracay 🙂 My cousin loves the pasta along with her margarita while for me, I felt that it’s lacking of flavor. The grilled chicken was also a winner for my mother in law. Even though the rice was a little spicy, she loves the combination.

From the bar, Jeremiah and I had a glass of Sangria which made us felt we’re in Barcelona as the taste was the same of what we’ve tried in the city. From the dessert options, the Chocolate Lava Cake (PHP 290) was a stunner along with the vanilla ice cream. We also tried the Churros (6pcs. PHP 180) which I can honestly say better than the one we tried in Chocolateria de San Gines in Madrid.

From the moment they received us up to the time we left, the warm smiles and treatment from the staff were consistent. It is something to admire in any restaurant that we tried. Besides the good food and ambiance, the staff and service was the main factor we always consider when checking out a great foodie spot. We’re glad that our expectation of a relax setting, delicious food and warm service were all met by the people in La Cozina. Thank you so much to the wonderful team!
