Ramadan signifies a holy period where Muslims do fasting and end it after sunset. Being in the UAE for nearly 7 years now, we’ve seen the patience and respect that demonstrates this period coming from Muslims and even non-Muslims. For instance, restaurants and all dining venue are closed the whole day and only serves in the evening for Iftar meal. Iftar time symbolizes that the fasting for the day has ended and usually shared with family and friends.
While the UAE has many restaurants available for Iftar, we made sure to try the offerings in our favorite hotel – Amwaj Rotana in JBR 🙂 Having the chance to stay and dine with them for a few times now, we know what to expect when we went one evening for Iftar. As usual, we weren’t disappointed by Horizon – the all-day dining restaurant of the 5-star hotel 🙂 Here are the highlights of the Iftar buffet.
Delectable Options with Mainly Arabic and Emirati Cuisines
The restaurant’s daily Iftar buffet consists of mainly classic Arabic dishes with selection of Emirati specialties and a few International options. As compared with other Iftar buffets in Dubai, the restaurant clearly offers more of the traditional cuisines which we greatly adored as shown in this video.
Ramadan Themed Areas to Break the Fast
Before the entrance, at the entrance and at the comfort of your table – these were the areas where they placed a good selection of dates, dried fruits and nuts which are usually taken to break the fast. A variety of Ramadan juices have its own corner in the buffet.
Extensive Dessert Options with Turkish Delights
Ice cream, fruits, cakes, tarts, Arabic sweets and Turkish delights – what more to ask for? While the other desserts are being offered in most Iftar buffet here in Dubai, it’s our first time to see a great spread of Turkish favorites. The dessert section has its own long table so you’d know how much is being offered.
International Menu Options
While Horizon focused with the traditional Arabic and some Emirati cuisines, we love the fact that international menu options like pasta and sushi station were also available. The inclusion perfectly catered Westerns and Asians like us. We were there on a Sunday night yet the place was busy with locals and expats.
With every visit made, the professionalism and hospitality of the staff made us admired them more and more! Along with the delectable dishes was the top-notch service of the restaurant staff. From the welcome greetings until we leave the place, we felt most welcome and all our needs are well taken care of. In every dining experience, it’s the most important thing we’re looking for in a restaurant – the service and the staff. And we’re proud to say how these guys shown their professionalism while keeping the treatment warm and hospitable especially Mr. Pankaj and the Chefs. Certainly, they made our third visit the same incredible experience as the first two. Thank you guys!
It feels good to experience an Iftar feast and see how our Muslim brothers and sisters joined together to break their fast. A restaurant like Horizon of Amwaj Rotana is indeed a great place for all and even non-Muslims to understand the spirit of Ramadan. With the concept of keeping with the traditions that features Arabic and Emirati cuisines, a wide selection of high quality dishes, Arabic and Turkish desserts along with the great ambiance and top-notch service, families and friends can surely have a pleasant Iftar dinner here just like what we did 🙂
