I’ve done a lot of mistakes in the past when it comes to booking a flight. As always, I ended up booking an expensive ticket which I can really get on a lower price if it’s done on the correct time and the right website. After 3 years of travel, I finally learned from these mistakes. Hurray!how to find cheapest flight
And today I would like to share you on how you can actually score the cheapest flight possible. If you’re willing to put in a little time and effort, you could save big on your next flight I assure you. Some are a little tricky, some are common sense and some might just make you change your spending habits.
How to Find the Cheapest Flight
1. Buy Tickets Two Months in Advance
You’ve read many times that the cheapest time to book a ticket is Tuesday. But according to this article from CNTraveler it’s not necessarily true. And Expedia and Airlines Reporting Corporation reveal that the best time to buy is at least 57 days in advance. Making reservations late in the game can cost you a lot of money.
2. Keep Your Searches Private
Always search in incognito or private browsing mode to see the lowest prices. Websites used cookies (a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in the user’s web browser while the user is browsing). In simple term, your browser saved data through cookies thus flight prices increase when a particular route is frequently searched. Browser cookies are reset each time you re-open an incognito window.
3. Use a Flight Search Engine
Don’t just hope for a good price and search for the best deals. You can try to search via Google Flights as it can quickly compare flights but the airlines are limited and prices are not all shown. Other search engines are Expedia, Kayak, Skyscanner and Momondo. Check it yourself and try to compare.
4. Compare with the Airline Website
After finding the airline with the best price through a flight search engine like Skyscanner, we directly go to the airline website and compare. Usually, these search engines have a small commission if you book with them.
5. Sign Up for Airfare Alerts
Keep an eye on fare trends and sign up for airfare alerts and newsletters. You’ll get notified swiftly when a sale starts and get a head start when only a limited number of seats are available. Acting fast when a fare sale starts can save you a lot of money.
6. Follow Your Favorite Airline on Social Media
Follow your favorite airline on social media as they often announce their latest deal here. In this way, you’ll have access to deals that airlines can’t advertise directly. They only have a certain number of seats they can advertise at a sales price.
7. Be Flexible on Your Travel Dates
Try adding a couple of days to your trip before or after travel days for a chance to lower the fare. Also if you’re not in a hurry consider a short layover. Dubai, Doha and Istanbul are popular layovers. Stopovers don’t have to be boring and can actually be an added bonus on a holiday but keep in mind the visa requirement.
8. Search One Ticket at a Time
To think that more people flying means a better rate is wrong. Always compare before hitting the button. It can be true if the airline offers a group discount option but that’s on a very rare occasion. Try searching one at a time in case there are limited seats on sale. This way, you’ll rest assured that at least some, if not all of your tickets were purchased for the lowest possible price.
9. Book through a Travel Agency
Try searching Musafir travel agency if you’re from Dubai. Most travel agencies have special rates that are not accessible to the public. But keep in mind that they usually add a percentage to the price obviously for their agent fees. So make sure to do your own research first and compare it with their rates.
10. Choose “Anywhere/Everywhere”
This option is for adventurous traveler only as the cheapest fare available will also bring you to anywhere in the world. Surely, this option will provide you a list of cheap places to fly. Be adventurous and click that button.
So that’s all we learned in finding the cheapest flight possible. As with any purchase, you need to check around to get the best deal by trying different options. Certainly, there’s no real shortcut to finding a cheap airfare. We hope that the tips provided will help you save time, frustration and most importantly money when booking your next flight.
