As cliché as it may sound, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But in a busy Dubai, people usually run to work every morning often take it for granted. With an exemption on weekends of course as it became a staple and more of a treat after a long week of work. Self-confess brekky-hunters, we try to find the best breakfast spots in the city. When we heard about our favorite gastropub – JB’s launched a weekend breakfast menu last January, we couldn’t be more than excited to try it last weekend! 🙂
With a location at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) or more known as “The Walk”, the gastropub serves as one of the signature restaurants of the luxurious Amwaj Rotana hotel. You don’t need to worry about the need to go inside the hotel as it’s easily accessible from the outside. After a hearty breakfast at JBs, one can simply enjoy the beach, park and the many entertainment and retail outlets in JBR.
Walking into the space at breakfast time, the restaurant takes on a different ambiance by day. The strong display of New York or London touch – the brick-designed walls, chalk board writings, huge barrels, sleek ceiling, concrete and wooden flooring are clearer in the morning and made us appreciate the exquisite details without the bar crowd. Diners can also take advantage of the plenty seating areas with choices of private spaces for families. There’s an outside seating area too.
Food and Menu
The creatively designed “Sunrise Menu” caters different types of diners. Whether you’re a heavy or healthy eater, you’ll surely find something here. Full English breakfast are served at JB’s. Also what made the menu standout were the kid’s menu options or fancy called “petit breakfast”.
From the big brekkie options, the husband ordered the full monty (AED 72) which has sausage, back bacon, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, grilled tomato, hash browns, black pudding and rustic toast. By simply enumerating the full monty, you can be sure it’s certainly belongs to the Big Breakfast 🙂
While the servings was generous enough for the husband, you can opt to have a double of everything in the full monty with the the hungry man choice. Everything was cooked to perfection with a strong liking of the baked beans. According to him, it wasn’t your typical beans found in hotel breakfast buffet. As always, he had hot chocolate to accompany his meal.
While I had a basket of mini-pastries (AED 45) consist of croissant, pain au chocolat, cranberry danish, custard turnover, toast, jams and butter. It was beautifully served in metallic silverware. Complemented with a Ceylon cinnamon tea (AED 19) placed in a pretty teapot, I had a perfect introduction of the French favorites 🙂
I also had the refuel granola (AED 65) made of natural yoghurt, mixed berries, granola, pumpkin seed and chia seed. A healthy menu which reminds me of what I had in Mykonos. It seems like the food here made me wanderlust more! 🙂
Then we shared with the large serving of well-presented egg benedict (AED 50) with ham, English muffin and hollandaise. It tasted absolutely good and I would recommend you guys to try it on your visit! Actually you need to try all of what we had :p
The lovely Ms. Mae offered us their healthy drinks and we couldn’t be more than thankful as we wanted to lessen the fat from the meats 🙂 We had the detox (mix of carrot, beetroot, celery and ginger) and very berry (mix of banana, mixed berries with soy milk). Both were very refreshing and it feels good to have something healthy.
Staff and Service
As we’ve mentioned before in our first visit at the gastropub, the staff of JB’s are the best we’ve met in Dubai. Though the team we’ve met last time were not present except Ms. Mae, the morning team also made the dining experience convenient. From time to time, Ms. Mae or the other staff will visit our table to change plate, served our order, check if we need anything else or if we’re enjoying the food. It’s the little things that we loved about JBs. Thanks a lot to the lovely Ms. Mae 🙂 Chef James even visited us on our table and reminded us to eat our food before it became cold! You know what the bloggers do before every meal!haha. Thank you Chef for the thoughtful gesture and for posing for the camera! 🙂
With the full pack and delicious weekend breakfast we had at JBs, we’ll surely never look at breakfasts the same way. The choices from traditional English breakfast to healthy options and kids menu made it a perfect spot for a weekend treat with friends or family.
