Unusual and Naughty Things To Do in Santorini

Unusual and Naughty Things To Do in Santorini

Ohh Santorini! You’re so beautiful, charming and unbelievable! Some of the thousands words to describe the magical island of Greece. Famous for honeymooners and travelers, Santorini is one of the fairy-tale like town worthy of the hashtag #bucketlist. Whitewashed houses built on cliffs, blue domes and doors, perfect sunsets, panoramic calderas and endless oceans – are the obvious pretty things Santorini has to offer.

Most probably, you’ve seen those things a lot of times as you googled the well-known island. And to give you a different kind of “The Feels in Santorini”, let me share you the unusual and naughty things we’ve experienced while in the island 🙂

Things We Did in Santorini

1. Exhausting Volcano Hike

Santorini is considered as the Black Pearl of the Aegean Sea for its history and volcanic beaches. And to check if this is real, we did our first hike in an active volcano! You heard it right, but it’s not harmful promise. Arranged by Caldera Travel and Events the agency picked us at around 9 am from our hotel. We hop on a boat at the old port of Fira and waited for about 20 minutes. After 15 minutes journey, we arrived at the volcano bay and started our hike. As the tour guide said, the active craters are at the top. It felt like we’re in the moon as we walked in the volcanic rocks. It was an exhausting hike but definitely worth it for the spectacular views! 🙂

2. Wear Swimwear w/o Dipping into Volcanic Hot Springs

After our hike at the volcano, we moved to another island for the hot springs – the famous mud baths, which were formed as result of volcanic eruptions. As we haven’t really checked what’s on the tour nor read a single review about it and just followed a leaflet saying to bring swimwear like we did. We ended up staying on the boat while other professional swimmers jump in the cold water! :p

3. Fight at Cable Car Ride

Most couple fight and it’s very common nowadays. But that’s not us I’m talking about! :p While we have an unforgettable cable car ride on our way down the steep slopes, our way up wasn’t that pleasant. We’ve met an Asian couple – Japanese or Chinese looked in the first cabin. This cabin got the best seats to see the view and it can occupy 6 person maximum. By rules, it was right to join them even though there are free cabins. When the ride started, they started taking selfies like 1000 times and it was really annoying :p My husband cute naughtiness attacked and he stand up, blocking the view and they got mad at us! 🙂 They’ve got thousand selfies after all!

4. Life Threatening Walk at the Red Beach

Woke up earlier that day to see the hidden gem of the island – the red beach. Through the GPS husband and the rented car, we found the place. Surprisingly, it wasn’t your typical beach that you just walk by the beautiful sand to reach the water. We’re the only visitors by that time, plus an old man selling his crafts. We walked through a sort of red small and big rocks, steep hilly narrow walkway. It was actually safe until we return to the proper pathway and we didn’t get nervous while taking shots. Guess what’s life threatening here? The kid in my husband’s body takes on as he run on the narrow dangerous pathways when I’m not looking at him! Crazy!

5. Couple Watching during Oia Sunset

Photo of Santorini during Oia sunset from Bright Side is actually real. Almost 80% of these visitors are couples like us. Apart from the gorgeous Oia sunset we’ve witnessed, a lot of couples are can grab your attention here. I know that we should just mind our business but I can’t keep my eyes from those lovely couples showing massive display of affection! :p Just enjoy the sunset folks!

6. Got Drunk by Santorini Wine

With a bunch of distinctive flavors, wines of Santorini have become famous throughout the wine world. You can opt to visit a winery while in the island as it was one of the must-do suggested by TripAdvisor. For us, we simply enjoyed tasting the strongest Santorini wine in Avocado restaurant. The restaurant offered a one small glass for free to any diner. An advice from the waitress is to take it slowly and I refused to! Ending was I got dizzy and drunk for one shot of a tiny glass only! :p Lesson learned here – take San Miguel Beer and leave the wine :p

7. Freeze to Death at Andromeda Villas

The weather is utterly perfect during our 8 day trip to Greece – it was around 11 to 16 degrees Celsius. We adored our homey room, breakfast and the staff of Andromeda Villa. But this 4 star property got killer splash pools! Though the sun rays are directly hitting us, a dip in their super cold splash pools will undoubtedly freeze you to death! :p Don’t spend more than 2 minutes here ok? If not for the views we’ll never try it, but it was amazingly a fun experience! 🙂

8. Trap at Blue Star Ferries

On our journey to Athens, we decided to upgrade our regular ferry ticket to business class. It was an 8 hour ride and we want to sleep after all the hilarious experiences above! :p We have the best sleep in this cabin that we haven’t notice the ferry reached Athens port already! My husband called the reception 2 hours before to ring us if we’re near the port but they didn’t bother to call us. We quickly fix our things and try to go out but we can’t find the exit! Everybody’s gone! And we’re trap! Thanks God, one staff helped us out and we exit where all the cargo trucks are placed. HILARIOUS 🙂

Hi there, great post on Santorini,I must say, it’s better than the usual write-up about Santorini! About the couple fight in the cable car, it’s probably Chinese, the Japanese are more polite and courteous 😉 Which month of the year did you go to Santorini? I would love to go but prefer to avoid the summer crowd.

Hello Kat! Thank you so much for the kind words. Even Filipinos like us fight a lot, haha. But I have to agree, in Maldives there’s this Japanese couple looking very cute and so polite when they talked to us but all we replied was “Arigatou Gozaimasu” 🙂 We went in May 1st week. I will suggest you to go on the same dates as when we leave Santorini, crowds became more. Safe travels Kat.
