Anyone who lives in Dubai knows that the city has a plethora of luxury hotels. Some are the popular ones, others are the impressive ones and there are those which has the character and charm. Only a minority of properties fit the three and one classic example is the magnificent Palace Downtown hotel of the Address Hotels and Resorts, a luxury group known for its gracious hospitality and exceptional service standards.

We had the opportunity to check out the property during the weekend via a staycation getaway. After staying at the Palace Downtown, we have clearly seen how this property has continued to be recognized and adored by many. Apart from its famous Burj Khalifa backdrop which millions of residents and visitors are posting on Instagram, here are the points that explain the hotel’s praises.

Central Location

Location-wise, the hotel is placed at Downtown area – the heart of the city. Its position put it within easy reach of major businesses and financial institutions, prominent landmarks and leisure hotspots, and the airport which takes 20 minutes by public taxi. Note that you may opt to arrange a pick up and drop service to the hotel with the concierge team.

Famous landmarks around the hotel easily reach by foot are the enormous Dubai fountain with unmissable water shows, the world’s largest shopping mall Dubai Mall, the traditional and rustic Souk Al Bahar, the beautiful Dubai Opera and soaring above all is the world’s tallest building – the Burj Khalifa. This area is the most ideal for everyone who wants to feel at the center of the action with easy on-foot access to nearby attractions.

Though centrally located in the bustling area of the city, the hotel is nestled amidst tall palm trees, and surrounded by a man-made lake thus creating a resort feel. Also, it is a low-rise hotel which further adds to that out-of-town appeal.

Unique Character & Charm

Think of Dubai and the image that springs to mind are the modern skyscrapers, shopping and all other luxurious treats. With rapid development, traces of Middle Eastern history are gradually fading into oblivion, even more in luxury hotels. However, the Palace Downtown is keeping its traditional dashes. Our first time to enter the lobby last weekend, we immediately felt like we travelled back in ancient Arab times.

The classic theme of the reception with Arabian touches certainly looks captivating. It also feels luxurious at the same time with the lavish flower bouquet arrangement, a petal-filled fountain, and beautiful chandeliers along with the royal yet warm treatment from the staff. The cold towel and lemonade served upon arrival plus the room upgrade completed our pleasant check in.

Lavish Rooms and Suites

True to its name, the Palace Downtown does feel more like a palace than a hotel. Apart the royal dining options, luxurious facilities and overall architecture, it clearly shows with its 242 spacious rooms and 81 lavish suites. Every room has a private balcony that overlooks the Dubai fountain and the Burj Lake. With seven styles to choose from, it’s easy to find a room here based on your preference.

We stayed in a Palace Suites Lake View Room which is very sophisticated and opulent yet keeping with the Arabian theme of the hotel. Furniture and interiors features a collection of Moroccan and Egyptian artifacts. The room itself is a luxury of its own with intricately designed fittings and massive 105 sqm in size, the biggest room we stayed so far that made us felt like real royalties! 🙂

The spacious bedroom is warm and inviting, with a huge king-size bed which was extremely comfortable, a working desk and ample wardrobe space. Choosing a medical pillow from the extensive pillow menu, I had the best sleep ever!

The attention to details was also impressive. Fresh flowers, heritage postcards, bedtime story card, two bathrobes and slippers, three sets of toiletries in the bathtub, sink and shower was carefully arranged. We were pleased with the welcome treats – a bag of Palace Downtown souvenirs and guides, an array of delicious traditional Arabic sweets, assorted chocolates and bowl of fruits.

The separate living room is elegantly furnished with a kitchenette, four seating areas and an attached guest bathroom. Fully stocked mini bar and a selection of premium beverages are available for a certain fee. And worth to note that they have a Nespresso machine (first time we found in a 5 star hotel here in Dubai) with complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water.

Our favorite feature of all the rooms at the Palace Downtown was the private balcony where you can simply indulge yourself with an afternoon tea while gazing at the incredible man-made lake in front of Burj Khalifa, Dubai Opera or watch the beautiful dancing Dubai fountain change its colors during the night.

The bathroom was very spacious with a bathtub and separate enclosures for the toilet and shower. Small details like the arrangement of the toiletries in the shower, sink and bathtub weren’t taken for granted along with the exclusive collection of Lorenzo Villoresi toiletries from Florence, handy loofah mitts, bath salts, dental kits, mouthwash, cotton wool pads, and wooden combs.

Another great feature of the suite was the automated in-room iPad service, which allows you to make restaurant reservations or bookings at Dubai’s most famous attractions like At the Top of Burj Khalifa. You can also request for in-room dining, room service, housekeeping or tune in to your favorite radio station in just a matter of few taps.  You can also check out the latest promotions of the hotel with this smart device.

Exceptional Dining Options

The Palace Downtown has six restaurant and lounges including a steakhouse, Middle Eastern and Asian options. Be it a fine dining, a brunch or an afternoon tea, whichever way you choose to dine in at this hotel – the experience is truly exceptional and memorable in every way. Everything’s served in a rich setting with magnificent views along the warm and attentive service.

Al Bayt is the hotel’s lounge that serves a selection of premium beverages and exclusive teas and coffees in an Arabian atmosphere with panoramic views. Another lounge is located by the pool, the Buhayra lounge offers light snacks, sweet mocktails and refreshing drinks during the day while at night turned into a mystic dining experience under the traditional Arabian tents. Fai the Asian inspired cocktail lounge is a good place for a vibrant night life with good music, great cocktails and of course – the stunning views of the Burj Khalifa and dancing fountain.

Asado is an upscale steak restaurant that offers Argentinian cuisine within the glistening settings. Thiptara, on the other hand is a romantic restaurant which serves Thai cuisine with a highlight on Bangkok-style seafood. Best feature of the restaurant was the option to dine in al fresco overlooking the beautiful Dubai Fountain. Trying it out for a dinner, we could conclude that it was the best and the most romantic dining experience we had in the city! With that, I have to dedicate another post so to share all the details of our romantic dinner. Romantic dinner at Thiptara here 🙂

And last but definitely not the least, Ewaan – the hotel’s all day dining restaurant features Middle Eastern and international cuisines which we gladly tried last weekend. The breakfast was one of the best and biggest buffet spread we’ve ever tried in the city and we would highly recommend including breakfast when reserving a room. Set in a beautiful backdrop of royal arches and wooden grills, luxurious curtains and glitzy accessories, it was the perfect setting for a sumptuous buffet.

Breakfast caters for most taste buds with egg benedict, pancakes and waffles made to order, smoked salmon, hot and cold mezze, Asian favorites, an array of tempting pastries, bread, freshly squeezed juices, and hot beverages to choose from. The quality of the food was hands down and everything tasted fresh and homemade. Ewaan was undeniably the perfect way to start our day.

Gorgeous Details Everywhere

After breakfast, we explored the property and took advantage of the Instagram-worthy spots around every corner. From the notable Arabian arches designs, opulent staircase, detailed wood carvings, and Middle Eastern lanterns – the beauty lies everywhere in the Palace Downtown.

Private Viewing Deck

Being a guest of the hotel, you get the privilege to access the hotel’s private viewing deck. Just make sure to ask the reception since there’s a special card needed to open it. Imagine the spot exactly in front of the Burj Khalifa, a little higher, with a gorgeous Arabian inspired round canopy in the middle surrounded by the manmade lake and an incredible cityscape of Dubai including the Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and a line-up of beautiful buildings!

Palace Downtown Private Viewing Deck

To watch the dancing fountain at this viewpoint and without the bunch of people getting into our way as what we usually experienced when in Dubai Mall or Souk Al Bahar was absolutely an experience worth keeping! There was a wedding photoshoot when we came but they’ve made it quickly so we’re alone in the place! It’s so cheesy and romantic guys! Haha. The dancing fountain along with the Burj Khalifa lights amuses every 30 minutes from 6pm to 12am. You can also opt to ride the Abra from the Dubai Mall if you want to get closer with the water splash.

Outstanding Recreational Facilities

If not for the attractions nearby, any visitor would rather choose to stay here and indulge with the hotel’s outstanding recreational facilities. Even though the other 5-star properties would also have a pool, a gym or a spa, the Palace Downtown takes it to the highest level of spoiling its guests with its amazing views, advanced and complete training gears along with a kind and professional service.

Swimming Pool

The hotel offers one of the finest pools in Dubai. In fact, it’s a favorite backdrop for photo ops by many residents and tourists as it offers an unobstructed view of the Burj Khalifa. Surrounded by tall palm trees and positioned right next to the Burj Lake, the temperature controlled pool is huge with plenty of sun loungers available.

Since the weather was too hot when we visited, in the afternoon we chose to hide in the tents (with aircon guys!) but in the evening, we leisurely take a dip with the tuned of a soothing music under the glimmering lights of the Burj Khalifa! What an awesome experience it is!

The pool attendants and lifeguards are extremely friendly and ensured that guests are well looked. Kids can also enjoy a refreshing splash at the dedicated children’s pool.

Award Winning Spa

Guests can have a relaxing retreat with the hotel’s award winning Spa. It offers oriental treatments in a unique Arabic setting.  Facilities include 9 spacious treatment rooms, two oriental bath houses, two Hydrospa bathtub with therapy jets, a hammam slab, spa suites, a dedicated consultation space, relaxation lounge and retail counter.

Spa Reception

State of the Art Fitness Centre

With the latest equipment, training gears available in the elegant setting of the hotel, going to the gym never looks boring in the Palace Downtown.  Facilities include sauna, steam rooms, Jacuzzi, showers and more. Anyone can also apply for a gym membership and enjoy the great facilities of the fitness centre.

Gracious Hospitality and Remarkable Service

The staff really went out of their way to make our stay a comfortable one. From the warm welcome at the reception, prompt response from the housekeeping, friendly staff at the pool, spa and the restaurants. They pay attention to the little details and it is out of those details that they bring added convenience to guests. Thanks to the wonderful team of the Palace Downtown! 🙂

Overall Experience

Great for both business and leisure, the property is one of the most compelling hotels in the country. And if a staycation is on your mind and you foresee yourself spending a lot of time in the hotel itself, it’s definitely the best place in Dubai to consider. Everything was really of 5 star rating – the luxurious facilities, elegant rooms with balcony and incredible view, delicious food and the excellent services were highly commendable. One practically need not to leave the Palace Downtown while staying here unless attending to some business or sightseeing activities.
