During our stay at The Cove Rotana Resort in Ras Al Khaimah, we had a dinner on our second night at the famous upscale bistro of the resort – Basilico Mediterranean Restaurant. The restaurant offers a mix of traditional and modern dishes and a variety of choices from all over the Mediterranean with an Italian highlights. We’ve seen how this place was a favorite among locals & expats as the place was busy last Friday night. Let us take you to our pre-valentine dinner date at Basilico 🙂
With its lovely interior, simple design of wine bottles in wooden chests, corks and all – I must say that it’s a perfect place to spend the night. But I couldn’t agree more when the staff told us that the outside terrace is more beautiful during the sunset. Now, that’s another reason to return at The Cove and experience the sunset while indulging with good food at Basilico 🙂 There’s also a bar area at the corner for those who like this type of setting.

Food and Menu
The menu was pretty extensive and boasts the best of the Mediterranean – pasta, risottos, seafood, and pizzas. Other options are cold mezze, soups, beef and chicken. It’s impressive that the menu is smartly categorized like of Chef’s signatures and Favorites. A separate beverage menu which consists of signature and premium champagnes, wines and more spirits were also handed. Same with the food menu, the beverage list was carefully designed as you won’t be drowned by the many offerings in it. Just choose your favorite type of drink or if you’re like us who doesn’t have a favorite, just browse at the last page and they have a list of suggested beverage for certain food.
We ordered the Yellow fin tuna tartar and Addisbell hammer for starters. Since we ate more seafood during the Friday brunch at Cinnamon, we opted for meat with our main course – T Bone steak, grilled lamb chops and Risotto. As for dessert, we felt stuffed already as the servings of each in the main course were actually for sharing so we ended up not having their sinfully delicious desserts according to Zomato reviewers. I’ll make sure to have one on our next visit 🙂
Before the starters arrived, we were given complimentary bread which was in generous serving and so tasty! You’d probably know by now that good breads can make me happy. Then the starters were served. The Tuna tartar comes with creamy carrot sauce, sun dried tomato, celery and quail egg. I didn’t like it as I’m not really into cold food but my husband loves it. Ultimate comfort to me was the soup, the Addisbell hammer! It’s a brown lentil soup with spinach and lemon.
When the main courses were served, I worriedly looked at my husband because the servings were too much for us! But I was completely amazed by this guy when he finished the T Bone steak, haha. The steak comes with fries (you can choose between French fries or mashed potato) and peppercorn sauce. I cannot blame him though as it was really good. No wonder since it’s a certified US Angus beef which are grass fed. The grilled lamb chops are tasty too but I have to admit that I didn’t eat it all. That wild rice along with it was also perfect. The Risotto was also good but we like the one we savoured in other restaurant that comes with black truffle.
The Staff and Service
From the moment they received us until we leave the place, everything was well accommodated. Our wait staff Tharapa was very professional and well versed with the ingredients used in the dishes I asked especially with the wines. He also cleared our plate immediately and the food arrived in a timely manner. The lovely Ms. Elsa visited every table including us to ask about the experience and the food.
It was an amazing romantic dinner at Basilico with its extensive offerings, delicious food, lovely atmosphere and fine service. The price of it might be a bit steep but for the lavish spread and its quality and ambiance, it was a meal worth indulging and splurging on.
