Our first hotel for our trip to Greece was Melia Athens where we stayed for 3 nights. Upon checking in, we’re told to fill up a membership form to have our free wifi and complementary bottled water. It is not included in the booking fees. Rewards are applicable with this membership and would be helpful if you’re planning to stay again with Melia hotel in Athens or other countries. Here are the top reasons why we love this hotel despite the unusual streets around it.
1. Great Location
This contemporary 4 star property is centrally located and very close to Omonoia square and Monastiraki. It is 2 blocks away from the subway. Though the hotel appears to be in an area which is run down, shops are closed, lots of graffiti around, we didn’t feel uneasy. A few people sleep on the street too but all appeared to be harmless. It is walking distance from the National Archaeological Museum, the Greek Parliament and the National Library. The best thing we love about this hotel is the easy access to Athens must-visit sights.
2. Upgraded Room
We stayed for the first 2 nights in a Supreme room and they upgraded to an Executive suite on our 3rd night after returning from Santorini. For the first 2 nights, they gave us 2 single beds which combined in the middle though we requested a queen bed. We didn’t bother to change though since we’re staying for few nights only. The room is neat and modernly decorated in warm and earthy tones which I really like, this made me feel sleepy as soon as I get in J The Executive room is spacious and has a living room with sofa bed, tea making facilities and a separate bedroom. Jacuzzi is available at the Executive suite which made the husband a bit grounded :p There’s no view to see beside the hotel but there’s a far Acropolis at the rooftop bar where the pool is located.
3. Simple but Tasty Breakfast
We had breakfast included in the room price. The buffet ran between 6:30 – 10:30am. The restaurant provided a pleasant environment as the staffs were very attentive to our needs, a great start of the day. There was plenty of choice each morning, and some of those choices did change each day (beans, scrambled eggs, mushrooms). They really did try to put on a good spread.
4. Attentive and Helpful Staff
Another commendable thing in Melia was the great service of its staff. From the check in, room service, breakfast and checking out, everything was done with attentiveness. They even let us leave our baggage for another few hours after we check out.
5. A Great Value for a 4* Hotel
We booked through a travel agency, so we don’t really know how much they paid for it. But upon checking their website for price details, it’s on great value for a 4 star property!
With the ideal location and easy access to Athens must see sights, great staff, spacious room we had, we would definitely recommend you to stay here.
