My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary trip. We mainly booked this hotel because it was one of the cheaper options we found at NYC. It was a 2 star property, our first time to try a budget hotel so we’re a little anxious upon booking it since we believed that the safety of a hotel is somehow based on its rating. But we’re wrong, this boutique hotel is totally secured and safely located in a fine neighborhood.
Whenever we choose our accommodation in a country, we firstly consider the location and this property is on a best spot. Located in the Upper west side of Manhattan of 87th street, a few steps to the 86th subway station, it was extremely convenient to subway, buses and NYC tourist spots like the Museum of National History, Central Park, Lincoln Center, Riverside Park, and The Metropolitan Museum. However, getting to the hotel from the JFK airport wasn’t easy. It’s more than an hour journey – 2 subway transfers plus a lot of walking is required. After an almost 18 hour plane ride from Dubai we need 2 more to get here.
We stayed at the second floor. Our room was pretty small but that’s okay since the room was relatively cheaper than other hotels in NYC. It’s very neat and clean, I guess it’s the most important thing since you just need a perfect bed after a long day of being a tourist in this city. There’s no fridge, coffee making facility or any real window. Even the bathroom is tiny. The door to the hall is not at all soundproof either because we heard the hotel maintenance fixing something in the hallway. Maybe this is fair given the old building, excellent location and reasonable price. It’s a compromise for sure, location over luxuries.
There’s no breakfast offered in this hotel like most of the New York hotels we had checked. No complementary bottled water though they have a proper kitchen where we took water. It’s in front of our room so it’s convenient – 205. Best thing is the free wifi included in the room fees, connection is good but you need to login every 24 hours as they changed the password everyday.
Staff and Service
The front desk are not helpful at all, they can’t even smile at you. After an exhausting flight, it’s not how you greet the guests. I feel that we’ve been mistreated as I saw them very helpful with the other guests. But the housekeeping staffs are very kind and friendly.
We booked Belnord hotel via Booking.com, stayed for 7 nights and we paid AED 3974 ($1082). Note that hotel tax (14.75%), City tax (US$ 3.50 per night) are not included yet. So the total cost is AED 4670 ($1272). A $200 deposit is also required upon checking in. Just want to share that the customer service of booking.com is excellent, quick and attentive! They help us confirmed our stay with Belnord since we cannot contact them directly.
It was what and where we needed it. The Belnord is not a stay in hotel. It’s only a place to rest and shower as you visit New York. This hotel is perfect for a short stay in New York while visiting the main attractions of the city. We would definitely recommend the Belnord Hotel if you just need a place to sleep, not a place to hang out in.
